Countdown to Christmas: $1.00 Gift Card Holders!

ChristmasTree

Hello again, savvy savers! I know many people may think this title of this post seems off, but its not! I will let you in on a secret… the day to start shopping for your next years Christmas list, is the day after Christmas! That’s how I do so anyway. I shop early, spend less, and generally have my holiday shopping, including most food items, purchased by Thanksgiving! As I previously mentioned, I never spend more than $300.00 for our holidays and we generally have huge holiday celebrations, as you can see above! With this thought in mind, I am starting a new weekly series on Christmas shopping! Each week I will discuss an idea on how to prepare for the holidays on a budget, so when the big day actually arrives you will be ready to go, with a few hundred spent, instead of a few thousand!

This week, Gift Card Holders! Currently, at Dollar Tree, there are small tins containing baby wipes for in themes such as Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street, and Winnie the Pooh, each $1.00! Thinking outside of the box here, take the wipes out, as they are pre-packaged, and use the tins to hold gift cards, cash, candy, or other treats for people all year long, but especially around the holiday season! Gift card tins skyrocket around the holidays at major retailers such as Target, upwards of 4-5 dollars a piece, and why pay these prices, when you can buy them at your local Dollar Tree instead! Though this is a small idea, consider how much the “small” items add up to around the holiday season.

Homework for next week:

Create a place in your home to stash small items, such as tins, to hide/store until the holidays.

So, for week 2 we have 274 Days To Christmas!

This week, slippers! Currently, at Sears and Kmart online, there are clearance youth slippers, in various sizes, for as low as $1.00! With warmer weather fast approaching, now is the time to snatch these slippers up, and tuck them away for the holidays! They also have adult men’s slippers, and womens slipper socks as well.  Also, for those with Save your Way Rewards points, or paypal rebates from iBotta, Receipt Hog, or Shopmium, you might be able to stock-up on these slippers for free! Also note, be sure to chose slippers with either free ship-to-store, or free pick-up options!

Homework for next week:

List the names of service people you will need to purchase for; doormen, garbage workers, technicians, delivery services, mail persons, etc.

So, week 1 (for this posting anyway) and we have 281 Days To Christmas!

This week, pajama ideas! So, we need to think outside of the box here. Currently, at my local Walmart there are infant and youth shirts, some with character and many plain, for $1.00! There are also fleece plaid pants, fuzzy pants, and the like! Pair them together! Create pajama sets for the kiddos and wee-ones for this coming holiday season! Remember to buy a size or two up, and once home, wrap them in tissue paper, and store for the holidays! A measly $2.00 for a pajama set, that’s something to rejoice about!

Homework for next week: Estimate your holiday budget, how much you can put aside monthly for this endeavor, and list everyone you wish to buy for.

Here’s to next week!
