Furbaby Finds: National Pet Day & Wellness Brand Dog Food!

Good morning, savvy savers! Did you know that 83% of Americans surveyed consider their pets as family members? These numbers seem very believable to me, as I also consider my fur-babies as family as well! With this in mind, and National Pet Day just around the corner on April 11th, this puts me in mood for all things pet-focused!

As you may know, I am the proud pet-parent, and fur-baby mom to three awesome canines, Roxxie the West Highland White Terrier, Sassy the Shih-Tzu, and Lady the Great Pyrenees puppy.

All of my girls are very near and dear to my heart, but when one fur-baby is sick this seems to throw your entire household into turmoil, and with that said I wanted to share with you an event that recently happened in our home this past winter. Our dog Roxxie, began to lose her coat, and became very lethargic. After numerous exams, three vet appointments, and nearly $1,200 in vet bills later, we were informed that the reason for Roxxies sudden illness was food-induced! Roxxie was allergic to the ingredients in her store-brand dog food. This was a huge shock to me, that a widely-known national brand of pet food that I often purchased, could make my pet ill; this brand of pet food was my go-to brand at my local retailer, and often had coupons to accompany this purchase!

My vet recommended that I switch Roxxie over to a new brand of food, Wellness Brand Dog Food. This was four and a half months ago, and since Roxxie has been on the mend! So, today I wanted to discuss this brand of holistic dog food with you.

As you know, our pets bring us joy and unconditional love. That’s why they deserve a diet of the highest quality. Wellness® Recipes are formulated with wholesome and natural ingredients, are without fillers, and offer an added boost of super nutrients including antioxidants, omega fatty acids, prebiotics and probiotics; all necessary ingredients for pet health. This brand also does not use artificial ingredients, colors, flavors or inexpensive poultry by-product meals.

Wellness® Dog Complete Health Product Recipes provide:

1) Live Active Probiotics – added after the cooking process to promote a healthy intestinal tract and overall digestive health at guaranteed levels.
2) Omega 3 & 6 Mix – guaranteed levels of essential fatty acids for cellular function and healthy skin.
3) Essential Vitamins & Minerals – designed for cellular health, immunity and disease resistance
4) Fruit & Veggie Antioxidants – a proactive step in improving your pet’s nutrition.

I have found that Wellness® Dog Complete Health Products do not seem to bother my pets stomachs, are available at both my local Petco and PetSmart retailers, or click here to locate a retailer in your area, and though they cost slightly more than my previous brand of dog food, my girls actually eat less dog food than their previous brand, thus saving me money in the long run! An added bonus, since starting this brand I have saved on costly trips to the vets office, as Roxxie no longer needs antibiotics and treatment for her coat or lethargy!

What’s also cool is that you can join the  Wellness Pet Club, which will send you money-saving coupons and offers on their products! Also be sure to check out the Wellness Facebook page for tips pet health, savings offers, and giveaways as well!  My girls love this brand, and hopefully yours will, too!

    • We did not know that at the time. However, our vet said not all Westies are allergic to grains, and certain types of grains more more others. Moreover, our vet said that because Roxxie was the runt of the litter, her immune system is more fragile than that of other Westies. We have used Wellness for our dogs, and Wellness Core for our cats, and all is well! Thanks for writing!
