Calling all fur-baby parents and guardians! I wanted to write about a cause very near and dear to my heart, the American Cancer Society’s Barks For Life Annual Fundraiser! Barks For Life, is a fundraising event honoring the life-long efforts of Canine Caregivers, who are cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, family members, and friends. This event presents an opportunity for people to be empowered, in their endeavors to help fight cancer and raise needed funds through their canine companion partnerships, and in the process help contribute to the American Cancer Society. As with Relay For Life, Barks For Life, helps us all remember that Cancer is not just a lose to families and friends, but to the Canine Companions, Guide Dogs, Service Dogs, Rescue Dogs, Therapy Dogs, Police Dogs, Cancer Survivor Dogs, and Diagnostic Dogs, who suffer as a result of losing their companions. Pets help by participating by walking with companions during local Relay For Life walks!
As always, this event helps to celebrate cancer survivorship, to honor people lost to cancer, and to fundraise in support of the American Cancer Society mission of eliminating cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
Fur-babies who participate are given the opportunity to play with other pets in Doggie games, participate in Top dog & dress up contests, help aid in Team and community fundraising, encourage Music and Food activities, and help promote caused involving therapy, police or rescue dogs.
This year, Team “Saves a Lot”, will include yours truly, Sassy, my beloved Shih-Tzu, Roxxie, my lovable West Highland White Terrier, and my vivacious Great Pyrenees puppy, Lady!
